The New Brood
The New Brood is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Tyler Riefke. The Wisconsin native was raised on a lush mix of soul, R&B, Punk Rock, and good ol' fashioned Rock & Roll. Emulating his many musical heroes - Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Roy Orbison, Chuck Berry, The Dead Kennedys, and Nick Cave - Riefke tried his hand at a variety of instruments from a young age, including guitar, drums, bass, and vocals.
Riefke moved to New York in the summer of 2014 where he reconnected with old friend and Mochi House producer Ross Kanter. The two went to work recording The New Brood's debut EP, My Old Body Failed Me, a 5-track collection that brings together their diverse influences. The EP also showcases Riefke's multi-instrumentalist talents, where he plays just about every instrument on the record with aplomb.
The New Brood's live lineup consists of Riefke on guitar, Kanter on drums, and Kevin Schwartzbach on the bass guitar. The New Brood straddles the barbed wire fence between cynicism and sentimentality, feeling everything and understanding nothing. Really, they just want you to dance.
